Austin guides the process of building, implementing, and operating OutCo’s cultivation operations. Austin has commercial and residential construction expertise in project control, personnel management, and budgets with profitable enterprises, both domestically and internationally, for more than 40 years.
Austin’s unique talent for overcoming adverse situations in remote and logistically challenging locations was tested for the last three and a half years while co-managing RECON International Group. Based in the Helmand Province of Afghanistan under strict government guidelines, RECON procured U.S. specified materials, housed over 800 employees, and safely constructed nearly $100 million of contract work annually.
Ben brings a unique combination of project management and compliance experience to the role of vice president at OutCo. As the manager of a 30,000 sq. ft. health club in his native New Hampshire, he doubled the club's revenue and membership over a three-year period. For the next four years, Ben worked for an international oil exploration consulting company handling compliance for multi-client oil exploration on projects worth hundreds of millions in annual costs and oversaw one of the largest exploration surveys ever done. Ben moved to San Diego three years ago and joined OutCo as the director of compliance. He quickly became instrumental in company-wide operations and the construction of our newest cultivation facility, which is the largest legal grow facility in Southern California. In recognition of his outstanding contributions and work, Ben was promoted to vice president of operations in 2016.
Allison graduated from Clemson University with a Ph.D. in Plant and Environmental Science. During her time at Clemson, Allison taught greenhouse management to undergraduate students, where they focused on organic methods and production. Allison’s dissertation involved investigating the effects of a beneficial mycorrhizal type organism (Piriformospora indica), where she learned that organic, sustainable growing can be easy, cost effective, and produce aesthetically pleasing plants when done properly.
Post-graduation Allison developed a system (patent pending) to mass rear beneficial nematodes for commercial use that led her to consulting on integrated pest management nationwide. Allison has extensive experience in greenhouse production having helped open and operate her family’s greenhouse business, where they have been growing sustainably for over five years.
As a recent transplant from the ornamental sector of horticulture, Allison understands the importance of growing a high quality plant organically and at a low input cost. Through research, Allison is elevating the standards of cannabis cultivation both indoors and in greenhouse settings.
Dr. Justice has been appointed to the California Industrial Hemp Advisory Board, through May of 2020.
Markus brings an outside perspective, founded on a solid scientific base, to the cannabis field. An organic chemist by training, Markus took the plunge into the cannabis world by establishing a testing laboratory. He also built an extraction facility for large volume supercritical CO2 extraction. Markus is deeply interested in the molecular properties of the plant, including testing, extracting, and the transformation of active ingredients. As a strong proponent of basic research, Markus constantly tests the limits of current cannabis science and is always willing to help others with their research.
Born in Germany, Markus took a very international route in the pursuit of his chemistry doctorate. His various stops around the globe include undergraduate studies at Imperial College, London, research stays in Germany and Singapore, a Ph.D. at ETHZ in Switzerland, and, finally, postdoctoral studies at The Scripps Research Institute in San Diego.
Dr. Roggen holds many leadership positions in the cannabis industry including Terpenes and Testing magazine Advisory Board, National Cannabis Industry Association Scientific Advisory Committee Co-Chair, Greenhouse Ventures Mentor.
